Photo Essay: The Grandfather of Philippine Mountains

One of the most beautiful mountains I've ever climbed deserves an album of it's own. Sharing some of the views which can be encountered while climbing the highest mountain in the country.

The profile of Mt. Apo as seen from one of the view decks.

Going up one of many steep slopes in the boulder trail

Rock scrambling through the white volcanic rocks and big boulders.
At Mt. Apo's volcanic boulders, with no trees or shelter, climbers take a break under the heat of the sun. Signs of sulfuric gasses can be seen throughout the place.

Approaching the valley of rocks.

Being a dormant volcano, Mt Apo's old inactive crater is filled with the greens.

The view near one of the peaks.  On the left is the top view of the inactive crater, and on the right is the view of the formidable boulders.

We have finally reached the campsite.  Everybody having their spirits up.

Once camp is setup, it is now time to prepare dinner.

Climbers going down from the summit campsite and heading of to Lake Venado.

Climbers on their way to Lake Venado.  This lake fills up with water during the rainy season.

The gigantic trees in Lake Venado dwarfs this hiker.

Lake Venado bursting with greens.

The vicinity around Lake Venado.

Time to move out.
